Something I think would help boost Oscar ratings, and introduce a whole new audience, create one new category. Not sure what you would call it, but make one for Best Fantasy Film maybe?? Whatever. The Best Fantasy/Sci Fi/Comic Book Adaptation film award. What would be a better way to say this?? Too many times these movies get sidelined to techie awards, when many are really great. Otherwise, they are ignored.

So much time and effort, years of large crews working around the clock to make to get every complicated frame right. They deserve a category, just the same as the Academy gives one for Best Animated Film. If you are only going to ever let a drama win best picture, then the other worthy movies need their own to be recognized as well. You could say the same for comedies, but that's another thread entirely.

Here's my case. Just look at 2014, you had:

    Guardians of the Galaxy
    Captain America: The Winter Soldier
    X-Men: Days of Future Past
    Interstellar
The Hobbitt: The Battle of the Five Armies
    Predestination
    Edge of Tomorrow
    Lucy
    Transformers: Age of Extinction
    Godzilla
    Transcendence
    The Giver
Sin City: A Dame to Kill For
    The Amazing Spider-Man 2
    300: Rise of an Empire
    Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
    Maleficent

And there are about 50 or so more than would qualify, just for 2014 alone. You can't tell me that there aren't enough here to create 1 more category.

While I do agree that comic book adaptations, fantasy and sci-fi movies tend to hosed by the academy, I'm not sure if a whole genre specific category is warranted. Then romantic comedies would want their own. Then goofy comedy and so on.

Perhaps there is a way to get the Academy to consider comic book films for the "Best Adapted Screenplay" and get them to expand the pool of Best Picture to more than just drama movies.
