American Idol Returns, but Fox Isn't Happy About it

Fox's rival, ABC is planning on bringing the infamous show back to TV. Fox, of course, protested this, saying that it was too soon, and that they would have wanted the show to "rest" for a few years until the year 2020. Frankly, I don't really care one way or another, I just found it interesting that despite what this article says about apathy in the fan forums, ABC is going to run with it anyway.

I wonder if the know something that others don't. Or perhaps they have so much money that they can throw this show at a wall and see if it sticks. If it does fail, well, that would definitely kill the show or put it into hibernation for years to come. Call me selfish, but I enjoy a world where I'm not having to hear "Hey did you see what happened on American Idol Season 481 last night?"

Maybe they are tired of losing viewers to NBC and The Voice, and think grabbing an already recognized name brand, singing/talent show is better than creating one from scratch, to compete. Also, better than trying to push a hacky sitcom in that timeslot instead, that has a very high likelihood of failure. I think the success rate of a pilot TV show turning into a smash hit is something like 1 in 10,000. Maybe worse.

Even still, not a fan of this idea. It's a clear ratings grab. Better they try to create something worthwhile to watch instead of retreading a very, very, very tired premise.

I totally agree. I just wonder how many people still tune into day-time TV. Perhaps the streaming services are the only thing that keep it afloat. Most of the content on those networks are recycled garbage, that you wouldn't even want your dog to watch. lol
