I usually dislike the Grammys. Kind of sucks as I'm a huge music fan. But I have very much disagreed with who has been nominated outside of a few exceptions the last 10 years or so. And it felt like it just kept getting worse. Especially with who wins. Feels way more like a straight up popularity contest than rewarding the most artistic musicians or bands.
Anyways, I'm still of that mindset. But I am happy to report that 2019's winners weren't terrible!
I'm sure not everyone will be on board with me on this, but I think 'This is America' was actually one of the best songs from 2018. For a ton of reasons. I'm a big fan of Childish Gambino and Donald Glover projects in general. So when I saw that video I was hooked. Granted its not the greatest song ever without the accompanying video. But it's still up there for me.
Brings me to Kacey Musgraves winning Best Album. I haven't listened to it, yet. But was actually close to queuing it up on Spotify because two different people I trust told me its a really good album. So happy and a bit surprised to see her win.
And then Beck winning best Alt Music Album. Colors was good. Solid. Not what I would have chosen. But Im a big fan of Beck and enjoy seeing him get props.
So those are a handful of the biggest awards of the night and I can't complain. Hopefully next year follows suit.
What did you think of the night in general? Feel any obvious snubs or surprises?
