The 71st Annual Emmy's will feature no shortage of wild and very likely surprising moments because 2019 has been yet another year of GREAT television. Whereas the movie industry seems to be trying to find it's footing again, television has continued churning out smash hits left and right, leaving us fans with a plethora of top-notch choices to spend our evenings entertaining ourselves with.
Game of Thrones is up for an eye-popping 32 Emmy's after airing its final season and it's hard to believe that the Television Academy would stiff them for Outstanding Drama Series on their final season. That doesn't mean we should count out Better Call Saul, Succession, and Pose entirely (all shows that could easily win just about any other year), but if I were a betting man then I'd place my bet on GOT.
Chernobyl, HBO's limited drama series dramatizing the 1986 nuclear disaster in Pripyat, Ukraine, is this years front runner for Outstanding Limited Series/Movie, but the category is still a true toss-up with When The See Us, Sharp Objects, Fosse/Verdon, and Escape At Dannemora all having realistic shots at taking home the prize.
Veep and Marvelous Mrs. Mabel are neck and neck for Outstanding Comedy Series and it will be a nail biter. Will the Television Academy reward Veep for its final season or go with the fan-favorite Marvelous Mrs. Mabel? Julia Louis-Dreyfus is a lock for Best Actress in a Comedy Series, but it will be interesting to see who gets the Emmy for the series.
There are obviously a lot of other categories I skipped over, but those are my predictions for the top categories. It should be quite an interesting night!
