You read that right. Game of Thrones will more than likely have a prequel. One has already been canned by HBO after filming a pilot episode, but House of The Dragon seems to be moving forward. It will be based off of George R.R. Martin's book Fire & Blood. Most GOT fans can probably figure out that the prequel will be set 300 years before the last series with House Targaryen getting the spotlight. Daenerys Targaryen’s greatest-grandfather-uncle Aegon will more than likely be the first character. The book spans over 150 years so the cast might have to be gigantic. There isn't a premiere date yet, but 10 episodes have been ordered by HBO. Sources say we can expect it to premiere sometime around 2021.

I'm sort of leery of this one after watching the finale of Game of Thrones. I'm worried they'll mess this up while trying to redeem themselves from the weak finale of it's predecessor. Does anyone else agree?

I think as long as they are working off Martin's source material and not going 'off book', and David Benioff and DB Weiss aren't involved, it has a strong chance of being great. GOT went off the rails when they put the script and fate of the show into Benioff and Weiss' hands. Those guys were not up to the task at all.

That other prequel that just got cancelled must have been a disaster of a pilot. Would have to be pretty bad for HBO to can such a ratings draw, money maker. But you're right, maybe they are leery of pissing off GOT fans as most still have a bad taste in their mouth after the finale season.
