With the close of 2019, tons of sites are putting out there top music albums of the decade being from 2010 - 2019. Here's just a few lists:
The 200 Best Albums of the 2010s
Top 100 Albums of the 2010s
The 100 Best Albums Of The 2010s
There is a lot of variety depending on the site you visit, but a handful of albums show up fairly universally:
Beyonce - Lemonade
Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly
Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy / Yeezus
Frank Ocean - Blonde / Channel Orange
LCD Soundsystem - This Is Happening
Vampire Weekend - Modern Vampires in the City
Kacey Musgraves - Golden Hour
Tame Impala - Currents / Lonerism
Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
Daft Punk - Random Access Memories
Adele - 21
Of course universal appeal, top 40 sound will always dominant the charts at the end of the day. Mass appeal. Doesn't mean it's the best. Just means its the most palatable to the largest audience. Looking at top indie charts, or top country charts, top alt rock or top prog rock lists for the decade surfaces so many more albums that arguably hit a target audience far better.
What are your top albums of the decade? Have a top 3, top 5, top 10? Post here. Always interesting to me.
The only album from the ones I posted that I for sure think deserves universal praise is Daft Punk's Random Access Memories. I also enjoyed Musgraves, Tame Impala and some of Arcade Fire's (but I think that's one of their weaker albums). I have yet to get to LCD Soundsystem's but suspect that one is worthy of the praise.
I'll offer up these 5 albums you should check out if you haven't:
Sturgill Simpson - A Sailor's Guide to Earth
Beck - Morning Phase
Bon Iver - 22, A Million
M83 - Hurry Up, We're Dreaming
Tool - Fear Inoculum
