Just watched The Irishman, which was really good. I've been a gangster movie fan for a very long time. It had me wondering what the majority of people consider to be the top gangster movies of all time. So I jumped on IMDB to find out. I have to say that I agree with most of their choices. Let's see if anyone else does.

    1. Goodfellas

    2. The Godfather

    3. The Godfather part II

    4. Casino

    5. The Departed

    6. Donnie Brasco

    7. Road to Perdition

    8. The Untouchables

    9. Carlito's Way

    10. Scarface

    11. Once Upon a Time in America

    12. Eastern Promises

    13. The Irishman

    14. Miller's Crossing

    15. American Gangster

    16. A Prophet

    17. Mean Streets

    18. A Bronx tale

    19. Gangs of New York

    20. White Heat

I guess since it's based on popularity that The Godfather one and two take the #2 and #3 spots. Still, I wouldn't consider part two to be better than Casino or Road to Perdition. Perhaps I'm not remembering the sequel all that well. I definitely agree with the #1 spot. Although I do think Gangs of New York belongs in the top ten. What does everyone else think? Do you agree with this list? Also, is there a movie that wasn't on this list that belongs here?

Hard to fight with that top 8, agree they should all be there, but I would change the order personally. Then I would keep 11, 12, 13 and 19 and replace all the rest with these:

    Reservoir Dogs
    Pulp Fiction
    City of God
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
    In Bruges

Oh and The Irishmen was excellent. Scorsese owns gangster films. Happy he made it too because it was a story worth telling, also glad he took his time to tell it. Long movie at 3.5 hours but well worth the watch.
