So this whole quarantine situation has been pretty terrible though it does present an opportunity for everyone to catch up on some quality series that they might have missed out on. I thought I'd put together a list for anyone looking for something to binge watch or just looking for something a bit out of the ordinary that they have yet to give a chance to.
1. Netflix- 'Ozark'
I can't really express how great this show is. I don't want to come off as a fanboy of the show, then again, I honestly think they deserve it. This show was incredible from the start. A big plus for you is the show just aired it's third season just a few days ago. That means you don't have to go through the torture of waiting an entire year for it like everyone else did. That gives you 30 episodes of Jason Batemen doing what I never thought he could do coming out of a series like Arrested Development, hardcore drama. And he does it exceptionally well.
2. HBO- 'The Leftovers'
In my opinion, 'The Leftovers' is probably the greatest series ever made. It's only 3 seasons long but it accomplishes what most other shows can never do no matter how many seasons. The show is centered around what would happen to the world if 2% of the population vanished at one time. You may think 2% isn't that substantial, but it is. If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and make it a priority.
3. Netflix - 'Narcos' and 'Narcos Mexico'
One thing I have to mention right off the bat considering these two shows often get confused with eachother, yes they are both of the same story line, though they are not the same show. The original Narcos is centered around Pablo Escobar and his insane run as a Columbia drug lord. I must admit that the first few episodes of Narcos has a bit of trouble finding itself, though just hang in there for a couple episodes and you'll be enthralled for the next few seasons. That's a fair trade off if you ask me.
Narcos Mexico is titled and listed as a whole different entity on Netflix. Without giving away any spoilers, Narcos Mexico is somewhat of a continuation of it's predecessor. You'll see what I mean when you get there. This show is centered around Mexico's very first drug cartel and how it came to be. Everything about this show is quality and Diego Luna is nothing short of perfect for the role.
The two are intertwined though if you want to hop right into the newer Narcos Mexico, go right ahead. You don't have to watch both shows to understand either story.
4. Netflix - 'OA'
The OA is an absolutely mind bending piece of art that you can't look away from once you start. I can't describe the premise of the show without giving away spoilers, though just trust me when I say it's brilliant and 100% worth your time. The second season of the show is, in my opinion, one of the greatest series ever made and takes everything dramatically further than the first.
5. Netflix - 'Tiger King'
I was a bit hesitant to ad this to the list considering it's a shorter documentary series at just 7 episodes. I also can't really explain what makes this show so insane that you'll want to watch all 7 episodes in one sitting, but here we are.... If you're at all interested in tigers, rednecks, guns, backstabbing, murder mysteries, crazy politics, polygamy or dangerous feuds.... It's uhh.. great. It really is.
Quick honorable mentions:
Netflix - 'Peaky Blinders'
HBO - 'Boardwalk Empire'
Netflix - 'Maniac'
Netflix - 'CASTLEVANIA'
Netflix - 'Dark'
Netflix - 'Manhunt: Unabomber'
I highly recommend watching any of the above. All of the series have something special that makes them unique.
Anyone have anything they want to add to the list?
