HBO Max is carrying new Looney Tunes cartoons now and has upwards of 200 new shorts in total to add to the historic canon, that started in 1930 and ended in 1969. This time around though, Elmer Fudd, Yosemite Sam and any other classic character known for carrying around a gun will not be doing so any longer.
Instead, Elmer Fudd gets a scythe, which honestly is a little barbaric looking and not sure it's a great replacement. And I'm not sure what Yosemite Sam gets. Fill me here if you know.. They are still allowing cartoonish violence though, like sticks of dynamite and anvils and whatnot, as that stuff is 'grandfathered' in.
At first blush this seems to be in direct response to the 2020 protests, the BLM movement and the like. But actually clips came out over a year ago with Fudd with his scythe, so seems like this idea has been in the works for some time now. Still could be in response to BLM as that started in 2014, but definitely not the 2020 protests. Just interesting timing with the release is all.
Thoughts, good idea, bad idea? Ridiculous, smart, what do you think here?
