The "Snyder Cut" May Not Be What We're Hoping For

The infamous extended cut of Zack Snyder's 'Justice League' was announced just a month or two ago. If you're not familiar with what that is, I'll give you a quick breakdown. Basically, the Justice League movie that came out a while back was just awful. The pacing was awful, the editing was probably the worst I've ever seen, the story didn't make sense and it was incredibly rushed.

Fast forward a good while and talks of Zack Snyder's director's cut began to make the rounds. Snyder claimed his directors cut was what he originally wanted the film to be and that he was held back by WB. He also said the cut was "almost finished" and "just needs some reshoots".

Fast forward a bit more and now we know for sure the movie (a series cut into 4 hour long episodes) is official. It's received a huge $70 million plus budget and will be in the works for a good while longer.

But here's the thing.. The insane budget, the length of time needed to "finish reshoots" just don't add up. $70 million dollars is a whole new movie. I honestly can't believe they're giving Snyder another chance with another big budget to "reshoot" the same awful movie. He must have really, really shown them something absolutely impressive to pull that off.

Also, I just read that Jared Leto's Joker will be in the Snyder cut as well.... Come on.... Leto's Joker was unanimously hated and comically awful. Why would they do this. He's not even in the original Justice League..

I think this is a money grab. And as bad or mediocre as it will probably be, it will most likely make them a lot of money because of the built-in interest and controversy surrounding it. People will watch because of the hype, because they hope its actually good, and because they like to see train wrecks, so they can give their hot takes online on just how bad Snyder is. Not saying any of that is bad necessarily..

I'm back and forth on Synder. I quite liked Watchmen. I was in the minority that really enjoyed Sucker Punch. Also liked Man of Steel. And of course 300 was really fun. But Batman v Superman was one of the worst movies ever. And then Justice League.. yikes.

Looks like he is turning over a new leaf with his pivot to remaking Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead. That's good news to me. Really curious to see his take on that.

I'm with you on all those films. And I agree with your statement on the Snyder cut being a money grab. I just hope it plays out good for Snyder. Think about it. He's spent the past couple years promoting this as "Wait till everyone sees what MY version looked like without all the bureaucracy". If it turns out the way Justice League did.... I'd be absolutely amazed if he ever got a comic film again.
