Letterman's stepping down from the Late Show on May 20th. And Kimmel just announced he will not be airing a new episode that night, out of respect. Kimmel's show and Letterman's run at the same time, and Kimmel doesn't want to take anything away from Letterman's big night. So on that night, you will see some rerun of a Kimmel show instead.

I think this is pretty cool. Letterman has been at it for some 33 years. And I know Kimmel has a lot of respect for Letterman, and all he has done for the entertainment world, actors, comedians, etc. Cool to see there's a creative way for hosts to show tribute. So far, none of the other hosts have signed on with the same idea.. wonder if they will now?

Probably not. I don't think networks universally want to dip their ratings, just to show a competitor some form of respect. If the others run a new show or not, I honestly don't think it will effect the viewership of Letterman's last show one bit. Lines have been drawn long ago, in the late night talk show world. The Letterman fandom will tune in, the haters won't. Good thing Kimmel is doing regardless, though I don't think he would have stolen a single viewer.

I agree. I can't see Jimmy Fallon taking the night off, even for David Letterman. It's a cool idea, but I don't see it happening.
