I've been told I need to read the book, but I've been putting it off. After watching the trailer for the film adaptation just now though, I definitely will be reading The Martian, and then going to see it right when it comes out.

I'm a sucker for well done sci-fi, and this looks very promising. So many sci-fi films look promising, but fail. Hard to imagine this cast (Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jeff Daniels, etc) and Ridley Scott (Alien) of all directors messing this one up though. Here's the trailer; just released today:

Anyone read the book? What are your thoughts on how it looks to be adapted to the big screen?

Looks like it'll be a great movie. I have to admit I've never even heard of the book or the movie, but I can see myself buying the book and then catching the movie after reading it. I really have a hard time watching a movie before reading the book. The only problem is that I typically wind up unimpressed with a movie after reading the book, so maybe I should stop doing that and just stick with one or the other!

Me too. I have to admit that I'm not a huge fan of sci-fi books, but I do like a good sci-fi movie. I'm really looking forward to this one. Does anyone know when it's going to be in theaters?

I am really looking forward to this film. The cast does seem quite unique, but I like all of the actors and it will be interesting to see how they all work together. Ridley Scott is a damn good director, so I have pretty high hopes.
